Some wool prices lift

Full fleece and second-shear wools improved at Thursday’s Napier wool sale but lambs’ wool fell from previous high levels. Higher colour wools are prominent in the market at the moment, attracting buying interest from overseas, PGG Wrightson’s North island auctioneer Steve Fussell said.

In the fleece market, 35-micron good style was up to 5% dearer and 37-micron and stronger wools 2% to 3% dearer.

Second-shear wools 3-inches to 4-inches, good style wools were up to 6% dearer and 2-inches to 3-inches good style was 10% to 11% higher. An example was 39-micron 2-inches to 3-inches at $2.85kg/clean, up 29c on the previous sale.

Among the lambs’ wools, 28-micron, 2-inches to 3-inches sold at $6.02kg/clean, a 98c fall; 29-micron, 2-inches to 3-inches was $5.95kg/clean, down 35s; 30-micron, 2-inches to 3-inches was $5.40kg/clean, down 25c.

Few full-wool prices were available but 34-micron was $3.54kg/clean, and 38-micron $3.11.

The overall pass-in rate was 8%.
