Results were above expectations as a big bench of buyers from South Auckland, Waikato, King Country and local competed.

The R1 steer market was an improvement on 2017 levels. Angus & Angus-Hereford, 311-317kg, made $1005-$1025, $3.23/kg, while heavier Hereford-cross and Hereford-Friesian also pushed past $1000.  A good portion of the traditional lines weighed 200-260kg and averaged $3.40-$3.54/kg, while Simmental-cross, 269-353kg, made $1005-$1170.  Hereford-Friesian sold on a firm market as heavier types made $3.20-$3.28/kg, and lighter lines $3.37-$3.40/kg.

Autumn-born results were also pleasing. A feature consignment of Charolais steers, 225-248kg, earned $845-$910, while all bar one line of Hereford-Friesian sold in excess of $4.00/kg.

Bull numbers were down and mostly of mixed quality and breeding. The best of the Friesian bulls was a line of 10 at 199kg, which sold for $700, $3.52/kg. Autumn-born Friesian, 96kg, fetched $460.
