Former director Leonie Guiney and John Nicholls have put themselves forward for the Fonterra board via the self-nomination process.

They join Peter McBride, Jamie Tuuta and Ashley Waugh who were recommended by the independent selection panel last week.

Self nominated candidates must have the support of 35 other shareholders in the co-operative.

To be elected to the board each candidate must receive more than 50% shareholder support.

If more than three candidates receive more than 50% shareholder support the three candidates with the highest levels of support will be elected.

Shareholders will be able to meet the director candidates at seven locations throughout the country, starting in Invercargill on Tuesday, October 23 and finishing in Whangarei on Friday, October 26.
