Fonterra asked for the halt because there might be a variation from earning guidance previously given to the market.
It said it is doing work preparing its financial statements for the year ended July 31 and expects to notify the market by close of business tomorrow.
All trading on the ASX, NZX main board and debt market and the Fonterra Shareholders market was stopped at 11.11am.
Fonterra shareholders fund units last traded at $5.11.
