The growth is below what is needed to reach the USDA's forecast of 93.6 million tonnes milk production for the entire year.

The USDA's current forecast is for a 2.5% growth over the 91.3 million tonnes produced in 2013. The first eight months this year averaged 1.8% growth.

Milk production in the remaining four months of the year will have to grow by more than 4% in order to reach the USDA's current forecast.
