Tick the boxes

Six titles on a 108ha dairy farm for sale just outside Hamilton’s city boundary is an investment in itself without the added bonuses of contour and soil that help it achieve good production results.

A 50:50 sharemilker with a contract through to June 2015 is milking 330 Jersey cows that had produced 110,000kg milksolids (MS) by March 13 on a low-input system.

“Nothing is more important when purchasing than location, contour and soil type and this one ticks all the boxes,” Stuart Stobie from PGG Wrightson Real Estate in Hamilton said.

Last year the farm achieved 103,000kg MS in a dry year, but even after another dry spell this season, production was racing away and Stobie said a new owner would reap the rewards of the farm’s best year ever.

The farm has a large proportion of consolidated peat soils and grows 8ha of maize and 4ha of Winifred rape, with palm kernel fed as required through the season.

The retiring vendor has regrassed, upgraded lanes and fences, and brought the effluent system up to a high standard.

Situated on an elevated site is the farm’s main home, a classic 1960s red-brick house with great character and size, while a second home is a comfortable three-bedroom house.

The farm is for sale by negotiation. For further information contact Stobie on 07 889 0171 or 021 776 173.
