Round-up: Intra-trade of EU dairy commodities up

EU intra-trade of dairy commodities has picked up over the January to October 2015 period, compared to the same period in 2014, reports the Milk Market Observatory.

577,109t of butter traded (+11%), 3,299,759t of cheese (+3%), 529,731t of skim milk powder (+8%), and 251,520t of whole milk powder (+5%).  Whey powder has been the exception. 5% less whey powder was traded over the January to October 2015 period – a total of 738,013t. 

Germany and France were the largest exporters of SMP, with the Netherlands and Italy being the largest importers. For cheese, which had the largest amount traded, most was exported by Germany and the Netherlands. Germany also imported the most cheese, followed by Italy. Ireland and the Netherlands exported the most butter, with most being imported by France.
