Round-up: Indian SMP bounces at last auction for 2015

The last auction for 2015 for Dairy Trade India (DTI) saw skimmed milk powder (SMP) prices bounce back after falling at the previous auction. Unsalted butter prices remained stable.

Prices for SMP at the December 22 event gained 6.6% to Rs145/kg (US$2189/t) compared to the previous auction when prices were Rs 136/kg (US$2030/t).

The Milk Market Observatory’s latest quotations of SMP as at December 31 were slightly up on 15 days earlier at US$1887/t for EU, US$1888/t for Oceania and US$1714/t for US.

Unsalted butter prices have remained stable for three DTI auctions in a row at Rs 250/kg (US$3774/t).

The Milk Market Observatory’s latest quotations of butter as at December 31 were US$3218/t for EU, US$3100/t for Oceania and US$4561/t for US. Oceania butter prices moved up 5.1% from 15 days earlier and US butter prices made a staggering 20.6% decline over the same period.

The next DTI dairy commodity e-auction is on January 12, 2016.
