NZ supplies more milk powder to China

Avatar photo
China’s share of whole milk powder exports from New Zealand jumped significantly during September, with this single market accounting for more than 60%.   Demand for imported milk powder is very strong at present in China as they look to secure supplies to make up for a shortfall in domestic milk production.  China’s buyers of milk powder have been consistently outbidding buyers from other nations for some time now.  Therefore it is no surprise to see exports skewed towards this highly profitable market. Exports of whole milk powder from New Zealand during the month of September were 4% up on the same month in 2012 but China’s share grew from 33% in 2012 to 62% this September.  To put this into perspective, NZ exported 47,000 tonnes of WMP to China during the month, while their second largest market Venezeula accounted for just 6,000 tonnes of product.
