Milk production data for July shows milk output for New Zealand was 13.2% greater when measured on a milksolids content basis.

While this growth appears substantial, it is not significant in terms of annual output.  July usually accounts for only 0.88% of the total year’s milk output. The majority of cows in New Zealand are still not in milk in July.

August typically accounts for 5.8% of the total year’s milk output as more cows come back into milk. Production volumes for August can also be influenced by small changes in calving dates. Therefore September's data will be the first data that will be more indicative of the milk production trend.
