Working to prove wool’s worth  Things are finally moving quickly in the effort to revive the fortunes of strong wool here. In July, a long awaited vision for the fibre was released and now the team that will lead that vision into reality has been named.

This follows news late last week that Wools of New Zealand and the Primary Wool Cooperative are looking to merge operations.

Together they have 2000 sheep farmers producing strong wool who are no doubt keen to make some money rather than pay for it to be shorn.

When the wool levy was voted down a few years ago it seemed the sector wasn’t interested in the benefits a collective could bring.

Now after another couple of seasons of terrible returns, the mood has changed.

Let’s hope that by working together and using the scale, talent and resources that union brings, those glory days for wool can be enjoyed again.
