Merino wools sell well

Avatar photo
Mid-micron wool prices tumbled at the latest Christchurch sale as Asian buyers dropped out of the market.

Returns were 6% to 9% lower for the 24 to 30 microns fleeces compared to the sale a fortnight earlier.

The effects were also felt at the finer end of the crossbred market, unfortunately coinciding with crossbred hogget wool coming onto the market, PGG Wrightson South Island sales manager Dave Burridge said.

The price falls extended to mainstream crossbred wools, largely pre-lambing shorn wools, undoing some hard-won, slight gains at earlier sales.

An excellent offering of Merino wools sold well with almost a full clearance.
