Wool prices improve

A smaller offering of wool led to improved prices at Thursday’s Napier sale.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Old season wool sold above expectations at some very good prices.

Oddments were keenly sought, especially the cleaner lines appearing alongside the very good styled second-shear wools. These are helping lift average prices. Good style second-shear three to four inches was 1% to 3% dearer and good style two to four inches was up to 10% stronger.

For full fleece, good style 35 micron was 3% to 4% dearer and 37 micron and stronger was up to 2% better. Lambs’ wool also sold well, with prices firmer than the previous sale on July 26.

Sales included, by micron, price per kg/clean: Full wool, good to average colour: 34 micron, $3.53; 35, $3.32; 38, $3.25; 39, $3.17. Crossbred second-shear: 33 micron, 2 to 3 inches, $3.50, down 4c; 37, 3 to 4 inches, $3.30, down 4c; 2 to 3 inches, $3.10, up 2c; 39, 3 to 5 inches, $3.18, up 7c; 3 to 4 inches, $3.16, up 5c; 2 to 3 inches, $3.09, up 2c.
