Strong wool prices firm

Strong wool prices firmed nicely at Thursday’s Christchurch wool sale. Mid-micron wools also firmed but the wools between these wider types mostly eased.

At the strong end, 38-micron wool was up more than 4%, and 39-micron up 6%. In the mid-micron range, 26 and 27-micron were up by 5% to 7%, and 29-micron by 4%.

Lambs’ wool was also in demand though prices were mixed, PGG Wrightson South Island sales manager Dave Burridge said.

Full wool, good-to-average colour (prices in micron, per kg/clean): 26 micron, $11.55, up 60c; 27, $9.85, up 67c; 28, $8.55, up 10c; 29, $7.59, up 28c; 30, $6.80, up 15c; 31, $4.45, down 23c; 32, $4.41, down 21c; 33, $4.35, down 18c; 34, $3.92, down 23c; 35, $3.34, down 14c; 36, $3.26, up 8c; 37, $3.20, up 2c; 38, $3.20, up 14c; 39, $3.22, up 19c.

Crossbred second-shear: 33 micron, 3 to 4 inches, $4.10, down 5c; 35, 3 to 4 inches, $3.35, down 4c; 2 to 3 inches, $2.91, up 10c; 37, 3 to 4 inches, $3.20, up 4c; 2 to 3 inches, $2.95, up 5c; 39, 3 to 5 inches, $3.20, up 14c; 3 to 4 inches, $3.08, up 8c; 2 to 3 inches $2.92, up 2c.

Crossbred lambs’ wool: 28 micron, $6.34, up 30c; 29, $5.60, down 23c; 30, $5.00, down 10c; 31, $4.18, up 13c; 32, $3.77, up 12c.

The pass-in rate was 11%.
