All wool class prices fall

Avatar photo
Wool prices came under pressure at Thursday’s Christchurch sale with all classes falling. The only exception in an otherwise poor day for mid-micron wools was a very slight lift for 28 and 29 microns.
Andy Caughey, the chief executive of Wool Impact, says he doesn’t want to give false hope, but there is in fact reason for optimism when it comes to the market for wool.

The 25 to 27 mid range were off by 6% to 10%, PGG Wrightson South Island sales manager Dave Burridge said.

Merino wools were 2% to 4% lower.

The mid-micron and Merino prices are down off very high levels and remain at historic highs.

Crossbred prices fell after making good gains a fortnight earlier. The 30 to 35 microns were 3% to 7% cheaper and above 35 was 3% to 5% lower.

The auction offered a large yarding of mainly pre-lamb shorn fleece and hogget wool. The pass-in rate was 18%.
