Prices were very strong from the first pen to the last, and the market lifted $60-$150 on 2016, with Hawkes Bay and Central Hawkes Bay the main players in the market. The top Angus & Angus-Hereford made $940, compared to $880 last year, while 204kg lifted $113 to $835. Hereford-cross, 209-249kg, traded at $770-$912, for $3.65-$3.68/kg. The best of the Angus sold well above last year’s prices, with 210-266kg earning $890-$970, while 190-200kg lifted to $790-$870.
The strength did not waver in the exotic pens either, and two lines of Charolais-cross made $1010-$1012, which was $87 up on last year’s similar weighted lines. Most Simmental-cross were 213-264kg, and traded at $842-$955.
