A nice autumn day did little to entice extra bids from buyers at Rangiuru on Tuesday as just over 1000 sold on a softer market.

Feature lines were noted in the prime pens, including 11 767kg Hereford-Friesian steers which made both the highest per head price at $2315 and highest $/kg at $3.02/kg. An entry of scanned empty South Devon cows also aroused good interest and at 734kg sold for $2.17/kg. Much of the focus though was on the boner pens and better Friesian and Friesian-cross, 460-513kg, eased to $1.66-$1.74/kg with most other Friesian selling for $1.46-$1.60/kg.

A large entry of R2 steers and heifers made up 60% of the store section and Hereford-Friesian steers were outnumbered by Friesian lines. Prices eased for both as Hereford-Friesian, 337-403kg, made $2.83-$2.98/kg, and Friesian sold in two cuts with 385-393kg at $2.43-$2.57/kg, while lighter lines dropped to $2.17-$2.18/kg.

Buyers played hard ball in the heifer pens and the best Hereford-Friesian, 331-430kg, sold to just $2.54-$2.63/kg.

The weaner section was small and of mixed quality, which was reflected in the prices paid. A standout was a line of 25 Hereford-Friesian steers, 108kg, which sold well at $560, $5.19/kg.
