Rangiuru’s store market had the first signs of spring potential last Tuesday as prices firmed for better quality lines.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Though numbers were winter-low the quality improved and pens in both the R3 steer and heifer section pushed past $2.90/kg. Lesser lines made $2.75-$2.79/kg.

Regular buyers were more persistent on R2 steers, and Hereford-Friesian, 412-450kg, firmed to $2.87-$2.91/kg. Similar movements for their heifer equivalents had 389-398kg lines firming to $2.65/kg, though a lighter line at 345kg sold above market value at $2.77/kg. Four Angus, 410kg, topped the section at $2.78/kg.

R1 steers and heifers made up the biggest portion of the sale and there was a very positive tone to this market. Angus steers, 271kg, proved popular, selling for $920, and a line of Limousin, 263kg, reached $870. Hereford-Friesian, 167-202kg, sold on a steady market at $700-$780. Buyers were also spoilt with quality lines in the heifer pens and a line of early born Hereford-Friesian had plenty of weight at 365kg and sold for $960, while better beef and exotic lines, 230-248kg, made solid returns at $755-$770.

Autumn-born weaners had mixed results as buyers were selective. Hereford-Friesian bulls, 92-101kg, made good values of $460-$550, and 96kg heifers, $475, though lesser lines at 87-93kg sold for $280-$380.

The prime section was small but mighty and all steers firmed to $2.89-$2.98/kg. One line of heifers, 615kg, made $2.83/kg, while in-calf Friesian cows sold exceptionally well, making $1280-$1510.

A reduced sheep offering featured small lines of breeding ewes, with scanned–in-lamb selling for $143-$148 and run-with-ram $110-$118. Lambs made $70-$160, and prime ewes, $126-$143.
