The second opportunity to buy large volumes of traditional steers presented itself at Dannevirke on Thursday, where 1500 mainly traditional steers were offered. Manawatu buyers were very strong on the R3 cattle, while most R2 lines went to Hawke’s Bay.
Cattle sold to expectations with R3 steers firm on 2018 levels, and the top price went to a line of 720kg Simmental-cross at $2005. R2 steers sold on a steady market, and the section was topped by Angus-Hereford at $1610 and Charolais-cross, $1680.
