Blenheim 21.03

The Blenheim calf sale marked the beginning of the South Island calf trading period.  Around 900 calves were offered, and these easily meet expectations set by vendors, Peter Barnes of PGG Wrightson reported.

North Island buyers underpinned the market, though there was good demand from local and Canterbury buyers. Approximately 600 steers sold into the $4.00-$4.50/kg range. The 300 heifers available sold around the $4.00/kg mark. The stellar past six months or so for feed in the region meant average weights were up 15-20kg on a year ago.
