“From tours to tastings, there will be a new experience for participants up every road or track on the trail,” event co-organiser and spokeswoman Catherine Lewis said.

“Horowhenua boasts some excellent food producers, and we have wanted to create an event to showcase them for many years. I am just delighted we have launched it this year,” she said.

The nine producers on the trail create and produce a variety of excellent food and produce and include RJ’s Licorice, Woodhaven Gardens, Tendertips Asparagus, Genoese Pesto, Turk’s Poultry, Ohau Wine, Woody’s Free Range Farm, Levin Eels and Country Treats.

At each stop on the trail participants will be introduced to produce that reveals the journey Horowhenua’s locally-made food takes from the paddock to plate, factory to supermarket.

Lewis said the event would be a great experience for locals, and organisers also expect families and groups from Manawatu, Kapiti and the wider Wellington region to attend.

"Horowhenua can only benefit from all these people seeing and experiencing what a wonderful lifestyle the district can offer.

“That's what Horowhenua Taste Trail aims to do – surprise, delight, and inform people about what our district offers.

“Make sure you start the trail with an empty stomach!” Lewis said.

The event is free and family friendly.
