Not all doom and gloom as farmers prep for season ahead The Tractor and Machinery Association reckons the sector is pretty upbeat considering the year we’ve had.

While sales are down from last year’s record highs, there’s still a lot of interest from customers gearing up for the summer.

Border restrictions are proving to be a problem, as they are in many parts of the sector and economy, but the association sees a silver lining.

There’s money available for those wanting to hire an apprentice to fill the roles usually taken by workers from overseas.

Getting more young people into the industry will help not only now, but in the years to come as the ageing workforce retires.

And there are worse things to do for a crust than driving big, heavy machinery.

Reset process for Fonterra Council

The steering group for the review of the role and functions of the Fonterra Shareholders’ Council has made 27 recommendations in its final report, only one of which suggests a change to Fonterra’s constitution.

B+LNZ chair Andrew Morrison says the board is looking to appoint someone who brings independent thinking, future-focused and is prepared to challenge and be challenged.

 

Start-ups offered investment opportunity

Between eight and 10 of start-ups that register will be chosen to join the Sprout accelerator, which offers $75,000 worth of business coaching, mentoring, network access, underground events and summits held around New Zealand.
