Technology plays a significant role in our farming future  The advance of technology is not linear, it’s exponential. When Apollo 11 landed on the moon in 1969, its computers held a whopping 4kb of ram.

Now 4gb – that’s more than four million kilobytes – is thought of as a bit on the slow side for the average laptop.

We often talk of how technology will help solve many of the problems we face. But we talk less about using the tech we have to make changes right now.

Fonterra farmers now are getting profiles of the greenhouse gas emissions coming off their farms. And, some of them are acting on those assessments to make improvements to their systems.

Tech may one day provide a silver bullet for the problem of agricultural emissions, but let’s not forget there are tools available right now that can help make a difference.

Farm GHG reports flow

Fonterra suppliers are getting their first profiles of farm and cow greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the same way they have been receiving annual assessments of nitrogen (N) surpluses.
