Growth at forefront of young talents’ industry expectations  The future of the food and fibre sector is in good hands, if the panelists at a Primary Industry Capability Alliance forum on Thursday are anything to go by.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

George Hyauiason, Hiraina Tangiora, Jack Ternouth, Katie Moffatt and Paige Harris, all of who are either still at university or early in their careers, shared their insights and experience in a panel discussion about how the sector can retain its young talent.

They were an inspiring bunch, and not only because while financial rewards are undoubtedly important, they didn’t even rate a mention.

Instead, they spoke of wanting to feel a real connection with what they do, to be provided with opportunities to not only be better at their job, but also to grow as people, and to be treated as individuals, rather than the traditional one-size-fits-all employment approach.

It was refreshing and provided me with confidence that future challenges can and will be met.

What was also nice to hear is that the best way of retaining young staff is to make sure they are part of a sector that they can be proud of.

That one is in all our hands.
