All eyes on Fonterra Fonterra announces its annual result tomorrow morning and market watchers are predicting a pretty solid result from the big co-operative.

Some serious soul searching and a changing of the guard has seen it curb its international ambitions to focus on New Zealand-produced milk, a strategy that appears to be working.

After today’s terrible GDP figures, the market could use some good news and Fonterra’s likely return to profit should provide some.

Farmer-suppliers have had a pretty good run of it in recent years with a decent milk price, but regulatory costs and the weird weather of late will be weighing on minds and on balance sheets, so the commentary that comes with the result will be closely scrutinised.

The world is in a strange state right now and some certainty wouldn’t go amiss.
