Former Synlait head and former Freshwater Leaders’ Group chair John Penno believes most farmers don’t have too much to worry about and it’s just the lower performing businesses that will need to change.
Those words are probably cold comfort to farmers having to apply for resource consent to feed stock in winter, and others in the high country who’ve seen steep land classed as low-slope.
Like any industry, farmers are a diverse bunch and there will be those who are ideologically opposed to regulation and those whose progressivism fits nicely into those very rules.
All farmers ask for is a fair set of rules that achieves the goals set, while maintaining the ability to make a living.
