It was virtually just a sheep sale at the Stortford Monday prime sale, where cattle numbers only just hit double digits.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

The small cattle offering were mixed in quality, but sold relatively well considering, with the highlight a line of 710kg Friesian-cross steers making $2.64/kg or $1871. Angus-cross steers 605kg were $1531-$1537 or $2.53-$2.54/kg. A single line of 418kg Angus heifers made $2.48/kg

Prime lamb numbers were also very low, but at $95-$118, returns were in line the previous sale. Ewe numbers eased back to just under 1500 head, with bidders signed onto autumn contracts underpinning this market. Prices lifted, especially for the lighter end of the sale. Although the sale peaked at $102.50, the majority of better types were $83-$91.25. Mediums tended to make $72-$79, and most of the rest $62.50-$70.
