Frankton sales October 18, 19

Plenty of grass growth meant a solid turnout of local buyers at Frankton on Wednesday, keeping prices at a steady to firmer level on last week.

There were steady returns at prime sale on Tuesday.

Angus and Hereford steers, 555-650kg, topped the sale at $2.75-$2.85/kg, with beef-Friesian lines, 555-678kg, largely making $2.71-$2.76/kg.

Heifers were also steady – nearly all lines, 430-525kg, went for $2.68-$2.73/kg.

The better end of prime hoggets continued to sell well at $125-$150, while more mediums types were unchanged at $110-$122.

Store hoggets rose to $78-$90 for good types and $65-$77 for middling lines.

The heavier end of the two-year steers were the most sought-after – 452kg-plus were generally spread across $2.78-$2.88/kg, though a couple of lines were slightly above this level.

Two-year heifers were a little firmer than last week.

Hereford-Friesians, 453-464kg, managed $2.81-$2.87/kg; beef lines below 400kg were typically near $2.80/kg.

The stand-out performers in the yearling offering were the heifers.

The majority were Hereford-Friesians with 238-260kg making $790-$860, rising to $880-$925 for 272-290kg.

Beef-Friesian steers, 277-316kg, sold to $890-$990, while 206-234kg were $745-$785.

Yearling Friesian bulls, 309-345kg, lifted slightly to $770-$880; lighter types, 259-302kg, $860-$990.
