Stratford sale October 19

There was a decent-sized offering of store cattle at Stratford on Wednesday.

A mixture of traditional, beef-Friesian, and Friesian two-year steers were consistent in terms of prices with 410-560kg making $2.80-$2.88/kg though some Herefords, 411-458kg, were stronger at $2.96-$2.99/kg.

The better end of a largely traditional offering of two-year heifers, 415-477kg, made $2.82-$2.87/kg.

Only a single line of two-year Angus bulls, 642kg, were traded at $2.72/kg. The majority of the one-year bull line-up made $580, with 260kg at $2.92/kg, $760.

Murray Grey-cross and Ayrshire-cross, 223-227kg, made $630-$650.

Yearling beef-Friesian steers, 230-260kg, were $835-$860, $3.31-$3.62/kg; the better end of 297-315kg lines made $905-$940, $2.87-$3.16/kg.

There were few one-year heifers available but Angus and Angus-Friesian, 216-232kg, fetched $615-$635, $2.74-$2.85/kg.

Weaners were few and far between with no steers offered and only one line of Friesian bulls, 160kg, making $475.

Angus and Murray Grey-cross heifers, 155-165kg, were $500-$560.

All cows, 380-580kg, made $1.80-$2.02/kg.
