Prices for in-milk dairy cows look set to firm as the flow-on affect of improving milk prices comes through. While numbers were low most sold for $950-$1350.
The R2 cattle market was more subdued, though this was related to the quality of the offering rather than market movement.
R2 steers traded at $2.83-$2.95/kg for the heavier lines and 380-450kg types made $2.90-$3.10/kg.
Friesian and cross-bred lines mainly made $2.65-$2.75/kg.
The bulk of the R2 heifers were empty dairy lines that sold on a steady market at $2.00-$2.30/kg.
There was no faulting the R1 market and prices were strong across most types.
Hereford-Friesian was the main feature in the steer pens, and a consignment of 30 averaged more than $4/kg, with the top line at 240kg making $3.89/kg.
R1 bulls sold well at $3.00-$3.50/kg, with the top line up to $850.
Heifers were a mixed bunch and quality lines consistently sold for $3.00-$3.10/kg though some lesser lines were down to $2.50/kg.
Boner prices were steady with heavy lines making $2.00-$2.15/kg, medium $1.90-$2.00/kg.
