Kaikohe sale October 19

The store cattle market remained strong for the 500 head on offer at Kaikohe on Wednesday, PGG Wrightson’s Vaughan Vujcich reported.

A small yarding of two-year steers sold to a steady level at $2.78-$2.88/kg, while the yarding of Angus and exotic two-year heifers made $2.60-$2.75/kg.

Friesian and beef-Friesian two-year bulls sold at $2.75-$2.88/kg.

There was a large variety of one-year steers on offer with beef-Friesian, Angus, and Murray Grey-cross all available.

The heavier end of these went for $3.20/kg; lighter lines, $3.70/kg.

A similarly varied heifer line-up made $2.85/kg for heavier types, rising to $3.20-$3.35/kg for the lighter end.

Yearling Friesian bulls were traded at $3.00-$3.10/kg. Friesian bull calves, 100kg, sold for $500-$590.

Cow prices were in line with last week’s sale.

Heavy Friesian and beef lines made $2.00/kg, mediums $1.80/kg, lighter types $1.50-$1.60/kg.
