Maitland Manning will work closely with NZ’s commercial pig farmers to support them on a range of issues and facilitate the growth and development of the sector.

This includes advice on immigration, migrant labour, health and safety, vocational education and employment.

He will also support the collaboration, communication and education of all stakeholders in the pork industry supply chain and coordinate the National Certificate Pork Production, PigCare and related ITO programmes and accreditations.

Manning, who grew up on a sheep, beef and cropping farm in Wairarapa, joins NZP after project management roles with DairyNZ and the former Crop and Food Research (now Plant & Food).

He was also a research manager at Beef + Lamb NZ. He has a BSc from the University of Canterbury.

NZP chief executive David Baines says the appointment of Manning comes at a critical time for the sector.

“Our industry is facing a host of issues, including farrowing crates and mating stall regulatory reform, environmental regulation, biosecurity threats and labour shortages. Maitland will play a key role in supporting farmers through these challenges,” Baines said.
