Wild about Angus

Avatar photo
The Wilding family tradition of Angus breeding is continuing into the fourth generation. Tim and Katie Wilding of Te Mania Angus in North Canterbury have welcomed home their sons William and Sam this year. William has spent the past five years working on high-country stations and abroad, while Sam has just completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Lincoln University.

Sam will head off on his OE after this year’s bull sale, while William will stay on as stock manager.

“My grandfather started Te Mania in 1927,” Tim said. “This will be the fourth generation back running the property now, which is an exciting progression for us.”

He said the youth and enthusiasm of his sons was adding to the business.

After a recent major culling programme to reduce cow numbers by about 400, Te Mania now calves just over 500 females and remains one of the largest Angus stud herds in the country.

With new staff members and a new focus, the Wilding family is looking forward to hosting friends and clients on June 17 when Te Mania will offer about 125 high-performance two-year-old bulls at this year’s onfarm sale.

A yearling bull sale will follow on October 7, offering sires selected specifically for heifer mating.
