Just under 1100 cattle were penned at Wellsford last Monday for the yearling cattle fair. Buyers were selective in their bidding, with off-types and those sold later in the day harder work.
Angus steers, 199kg, returned $770, while Hereford, 236-289kg, eased to $760-$925.
Angus-Friesian heifers, 220-288kg, held at $750-$860, though lighter 189-215kg eased to $560-$655. Friesian bulls, 196-207kg, improved to $605-$720, while Angus-cross, 139-175kg, sold to per head budgets at $450-$485,
Autumn-born beef-dairy heifers, 97-112kg, managed $450-$480, while Angus-cross steers, 115kg, made $520. Friesian bulls, 101-116kg, improved to $430-$525.
A handful of autumn-born one-year cattle mainly earned $2.70-$2.90/kg.
