A reduced yarding of just under 400 cattle were penned at Wellsford last Monday. The offering was a very mixed bag, though those with quality were well-rewarded.
Two-year beef-dairy steers, 401-428kg, were solid at $3.20-$3.27/kg. Hereford-dairy heifers, 203kg, traded at $705, $3.47/kg.
Quality was chased in the yearling section with Angus & Angus-Hereford steers, 211-281kg, strengthening from $3.40/kg to 3.58/kg, and eighteen Simmental-cross steers, 315kg, managed $1170, $3.71/kg. Angus-Friesian heifers, 164-258kg, improved to $2.87-$2.91/kg, while five Angus, 309kg, returned $960, $3.11/kg. Friesian bulls all strengthened with 201-213kg up to $3.12-$3.21/kg, and 300kg, $2.92/kg.
Just a smattering of autumn-born weaners was on offer and all steers, 157-222kg, eased to $565-$750. Eight Angus bulls, 208-238kg, fetched $730-$785.
