Wairoa cattle sale March 17

Capital stock Herefords were the main feature of a moderate sized yarding of cattle at Wairoa on Thursday. On offer because of a farm sale, they were in very good order, which kept prices high.

R3 steers made $1450-$1560, R2 $1175-$1450 for the better lines. R2 heifers from the same camp made $960-$1047, bulls $1200-$1600. Two buyers fought it out for the vetted-in-calf cows, with an even split. The top lines sold for $1450-$1470 while vetted-in-calf R3 heifers made $1515.

Angus weaner steers were a highlight, with 31 selling for $805, and Herefords $755. Lighter lines fetched $425-$520. Weaner bulls were mainly medium to good condition and sold at $770-$900 for the beef lines, Hereford-Friesian $505-$535. The better heifers made $620-$800, lighter $350-$565.
