Ventilation

Ventilation is critical in a housed environment for cow health and dry bedding.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Open or partially open sides will allow good air flow so that ventilation in the roof can get maximum draw – just like a good chimney. That will allow hot air and moisture to be sucked out of the shed and a continuous stream of fresh air flows in.

DairyCo has a precise way of calculating just how much outlet area is required in a shed depending on the number of animals, the size of the shed and the slope of the roof. The calculation is in its downloadable book.

There are also a number of designs for ridges along the centre, the highest point of the roof. Some are open and some have a raised cover.

The central ridge on this kennel house is open.
