Sales have trailed the previous three years for all months this year, but November in particular highlighted the decline. There was a month-on-month fall for November, when during the past three years there has been increasing volume sold between October and November.
In November, sales of packaged fluid milk were down 6% year on year, which has contributed to the year to November total falling 3.2% year-on-year. The steepest declines have been for fat-reduced milk, but flavoured whole milk is also declining steeply.
Fluid milk sales is the largest category by volume in which milk is used, so declines in this category can have a large downstream effect.
