USDA: Dairy Products – March 2014

The latest USDA Dairy Products report for March 2014 has nonfat dry milk (NDM) and cheese production up by 11% and 1% on last year, while butter is lower by 9%.

NDM production typically peaks in May, at the same time as milk production in the US approaches its peak. There have been consecutive rises in production in February and March this year compared to last year of 2% and 11%, and first quarter production 4% ahead of a year ago. 

Cheese production levels in March this year are 1% ahead of last year, and have been up on year ago levels all of this year. Cheese production for the first quarter this year is up 1%. Butter production has slowed by 9% compared to March last year, and posted lower than year ago production levels as has been the trend this year. Butter production is down 6% for the first quarter this year.
