US milk production up 4% in September

Milk production in the US has posted its highest year on year growth rate in September, up 4% compared to last year.

The milk production growth in September is on track to achieve the USDA's most recent forecast of 2.4% growth in 2014.

Milk cow numbers are up 2,000 head from August, and up 59,000 head (or +0.6%) from September last year.

Milk output per cow is 806 kg, down from 843 kg in August, but up from September last year at 780 kg.
