US butter and cheese production down from previous month

The United States Department of Agriculture has released its Dairy Products report for June 2015.

June 2015 highlights

Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 959 million pounds, 1.5% above June 2014 but 3.1% below May 2015.

Italian type cheese production totalled 415m pounds, 1.0% above June 2014 but 2.6% below May 2015.

American type cheese production totalled 383m pounds, 3.6% above June 2014 but 4.5% below May 2015.

Butter production was 143m pounds, 1.7% above June 2014 but 15.9% below May 2015.

Dry milk powders (comparisons with June 2014):

  • Nonfat dry milk, human – 164m pounds, up 10.6%.
  • Skim milk powders – 34.7m pounds, down 34.6%.

Whey products (comparisons with June 2014)

  • Dry whey, total – 80.7m pounds, up 1.7%.
  • Lactose, human and animal – 90.7m pounds, down 11.8%.
  • Whey protein concentrate, total – 38.6m pounds, down 11.6%.

Frozen products (comparisons with June 2014)

  • Ice cream, regular (hard) – 70.5m gallons, down 4.6%.
  • Ice cream, lowfat (total) – 47.3m gallons, up 10.9%.
  • Sherbet (hard) – 3.79m gallons, down 9.4%.
  • Frozen yoghurt (total) – 6.82m gallons, up 9.0%.
