There were 533 mixed-quality cattle on offer at Taranaki last Wednesday. R3 steers mostly sold at around $2.50-$2.60/kg, and a small number of R3 Hereford-Friesian heifers, 493-588kg, $2.51/kg to $2.66/kg. The top end of R2 steers achieved $2.50-$2.59/kg, while the balance sold in a wide range according to weight and quality. Heavier weights helped the heifer market, where R2 heifers, 400kg and above fetched up to $2.46/kg, and the average R1 heifer firmed a few cents to $2.37/kg. Read more in your LivestockEye.
