Round-up: Intervention volumes of SMP still higher

Data from the Milk Market Observatory shows skim milk powder (SMP) volumes being offered into European intervention continue to be high. Belgium and France offered the most in the week ending January 17, with 1846t and 1075t respectively. Other offerings came from Ireland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland and the United Kingdom.

A total of 5509t of SMP was offered for the week ended January 17, less than the previous week’s volume of 6359t. The European Commission has reset the cap for public intervention to January 2016. It will run until September 2016. A total of 40,280t of SMP was offered over 2015. For the two weeks of 2016 measured so far, 11,868t has been offered.

Volumes of SMP into Private Storage Aid (PSA) are also continuing to be strong. For a storage period of less than 210 days a total of 434t was offered for the week. Most was from Spain, with 243t offered.

For a storage period of 365 days, a total of 1704t was offered for the week. Spain also offered the most here, at 729t. The rest was from the Netherlands (539t) and Belgium (416t). A total 4223t has been offered into both PSA schemes for SMP.

PSA for butter slowed a little last week with 3299t offered. A total 4990t had been offered in the week ending January 10. Most of the volume came from the Netherlands, which offered 1850t, followed by Germany at 926t.

PSA for cheese had a higher volume offered with 1445t in total. Greece offered the most at 830t followed by France with 490. The rest was offered by Finland and the Netherlands.
