Round-up: European internal prices fall

European internal market prices have mostly fallen for key products for the week ending December 13, 2015 and volumes of product entered into storage was relatively subdued. With the exception of wheypowder which remained unchanged and emmental which gained 1.7% all other product prices fell over the week.

The price falls of the other products were fairly similar in percentage terms. Butter prices fell 1.7% to €293/100kg, skimmed milk powder (SMP) fell 1.4% to €171/100kg, whole milk powder (WMP) fell 1.1% to €223/100kg and cheddar was down 1.3% to €291/100kg.  Smaller falls were seen in edam and gouda prices both falling 0.1% to €251/100kg and gouda prices falling €250/100kg respectively. 

The average EU SMP prices are now very close to the Public Intervention price of €169.8.

SMP placed into public intervention for the same week totalled 1886t. Belgium again contributed the majority of the volume with 1651t. The remaining volume was offered by Poland and Latvia with 198t and 37t respectively.

SMP offered into Private Storage (PSA) was lower for the week with a total of 754t. 504t came from the Netherlands, 155t came from Belgium and France offered 96t into storage.

Butter quantities offered into PSA were also relatively low with a total of 336t, half of the week before. 221t were offered from Belgium and 115t was offered from the Netherlands.

A very small amount of cheese was also offered into storage for the week of 298t. Just 13t of cheese was offered from France with 186t also offered from the Netherlands.
