Round-up: EU milk collections up 2.2% Jan to Nov 2015

A report put out by the Milk Market Observatory (MMO) earlier this week shows that milk collected in the European Union (EU) is up 2.2% on 2014, measured from January to November. Measured from April, when European quotas were removed, the increase is 3.5%.

Measured on a percentage basis, MMO’s data shows that collections in Ireland (+13%) have increased the most over the January to November period, followed by Luxembourg (+8%), Belgium (+6.5%) and the Netherlands (+6%). On the other hand, collections in Romania (-8.4%) have decreased the most, followed by Cyprus (-2.2%), Estonia (-1.8%), Croatia (-1.8%) and Greece (-1.6%).

Production of most commodities has also increased (January to November2015 vs 2014). Skim milk powder has increased 8.6%, followed by butter (+4.3%) and cream (+3.4%). Cheese and fermented milk have also increased, by 1.2% and 0.4% respectively. Production of other milk powders, drinking milk and concentrated milk have declined, by 4.7%, 2.1% and 2% respectively.
