Round-up: EU dairy commodity prices sluggish

European dairy prices for the week ending January 3 mostly fell with the exception of small increases  in some cheese varieties and wheypowder, the Milk Market Observatory shows. Butter is the only reported commodity that is tracking ahead of prices received a year ago, up 2%.

Whey powder saw the largest increase of 0.9%, but due to rounding has been on €59 for 7 weeks and is currently 32% behind year-ago levels, at which it was €91.

Gouda and edam saw slight increases of 0.2% and 0.7% to both be quoted at €253/100kg.

Cheddar prices fell 0.3% to €287/100kg and Emmental fell 2.3% to €384/100kg.

Butter dropped in price by 0.7% to €298/100kg after reaching €300 a week earlier. Milk powders both fell with skimmed milk powder dropping 0.4% to €172/100kg and whole milk powder dropping 1% to €227/100kg.
