Older steers were mainly beef and beef-cross and sold to an enthusiastic buying bench. Hereford-Friesian cross topped the section at $1490 for $2.64/kg, while Angus-cross, Hereford-Friesian and crossbred, 440-485kg, earned $2.50-$2.55/kg. Lighter beef lines, 328-395kg, sold for $2.74-$2.84/kg, crossbred, 365-375kg, $1.89-$2.37.

Two-year Hereford bulls sold for $1050, $2.83/kg, Jersey $1000, $2.29/kg.

Good beef heifers followed in their brother’s footsteps. Strong demand meant the tops earned $2.65/kg for Hereford and Hereford-Friesian. Angus-cross, 448kg, sold for $2.53/kg, with values similar for lighter Hereford-Friesian. Crossbred heifers, 340-370kg, fetched $1.51-$1.95/kg, and a line of eighteen-month Angus heifers, 453kg, made $2.56/kg.

A good sized offering of weaner cattle met firm demand with strong prices recorded. Angus steers, 248kg, sold for $900, Hereford-Friesian, 212-245kg, $700-$845, crossbred, 182kg, $400. Quality Devon topped the heifer section, selling to $900, while Angus, 248kg, managed $790, Angus-cross, $610. Hereford-Friesian also sold well with 207-211kg reaching more than $3/kg at $670-$700, 132-183kg at $477-$500.

Friesian weaner bulls mainly traded at $400-$650 for 111-202kg, while Hereford-Friesian were lighter and sold up to $500. The better crossbred bulls returned up to $510, lighter at $340-400.

Boner cow prices softened because processor space is limited. Friesian and crossbred over 500kg sold for $1.47-$1.51/kg, 367-437kg $1.31-$1.53/kg. Jersey, 313-378kg, were back to $1.11-$1.26/kg.

Mixed-age ewes made $40-$60, 2-tooth ewes $65. rams $61-$70. Mixed-sex lambs ranged from $31 to $66 depending on size.
