Record volumes flow into EU storage

Record volumes of skimmed milk powder (SMP) were offered into EU Public Intervention (PI) since it was opened in March this year. Private Storage Aid also received record volumes of butter for any week of the year.

Public Intervention

A total of 1746t of SMP was offered into PI for the week ending August 16, bringing the cumulative total for the year to 5992t.

Lithuania offered its highest volume for the period with 840t of SMP entering the scheme. The previous week no SMP was offered from Lithuania following offerings over the previous three weeks to that.

SMP also entered into PI from Belgium and Poland, but the UK didn’t offer any after entering 432t the week before. 

Private Storage SMP

Private storage for the same week saw lower volumes of SMP flowing through with a total of 642t. Lithuania offered the highest volumes of SMP into PSA for the week with 304t. Ireland followed with 250t of SMP. Germany entered just 48t and UK 40t.

The cumulative total for the calendar year is 43,394t.

Private Storage butter

The Netherlands continued offering high volumes of butter into PSA with 3541t for the week. This brings the Netherlands total butter offered into the scheme for the year to 54,860t with offerings every week of this year. 

The Netherlands has been highest user of the PSA for butter in the EU for the year. The next closest it Irealnd at 20,492t and France at 19,732. 

France didn’t offer any butter for the week into PSA, the first time for the year. Germany entered 1281t of butter into the scheme and Lithuania entered 1142t, the first offering from the country for the year.

Other offerings for the week came from Belgium with 728t, Ireland 530t, Austria 11t and UK just 40t.

A total of 7274t of butter was entered into the scheme for the week, this was the highest volume of butter being offering into the scheme for the year. The cumulative total for the year is now 131,831t.
