A good gallery of buyers turned out at Rangiuru last Tuesday to absorb a big yarding of cattle. Angus-cross provided the bulk of the store steers, as well as most of the heifers, with over 100 head available in total – all under 400kg. The top pen, 290kg steers, earned $2.67/kg, but the rest fitted into two neat cuts:  353-372kg steers that earned $2.34-$2.44/kg, with the remaining steer and heifer pens $2.15-$2.21/kg.

Prime steers and heifers were nearly all over 500kg and prices firmed. The boner market also enjoyed a lift with the best Friesian and Friesian-cross sold at $1.87/kg, and the balance generally $1.70-$1.79/kg.
