NZX trades record volumes

Record volumes were traded in the NZX Dairy Derivatives Market today.

In total 5,994 contracts were traded today (12 August 2015). This bested the previous single day record on 21 May 2015 of 4,100 contracts.

WMP Options accounted for more than half of the volume traded. 3,000 put options traded in Jan, Feb and Mar 16 expiry months.

The majority of the futures activity was in WMP Futures however there was also trading in SMP Futures and AMF Futures contracts.

Prices for WMP Futures generally increased today. Sept 2015 WMP Futures traded up US$60 to US$1680/t. The Oct 2015 contract was up $70 to US$1790/t and the Nov 2015 gained $55 to close at US$1975/t.

The total notional value of Futures contracts traded on the NZX Dairy Derivatives market today was US$6.1m. The premium paid on Options contracts totaled US$195,000.
